Bite Beauty - The Lip Pencil Swatch + Review: Honeycomb & Whiskey

Even though I don't wear lipsticks often, I'm always on the lookout for new shades or lipsticks to buy. I even keep a little mini makeup bag of lip products in hopes of wearing them more.

I was chosen by Influenster to try Bite Beauty's new lip pencils they released this past February. I've only tried their Lip Crayons, but if the pencils and the Amuse Bouche lipsticks are anything like the crayons, then I'll probably love them.

044/Whiskey and 022/Honeycomb
Influenster also included deluxe sizes of their Amuse Bouche lipsticks in Honeycomb and Whiskey. The same shades that match The Lip Pencils.

As I've mentioned in my previous posts, I've been really into nudes, so I was pretty excited to receive Honeycomb. Whiskey on the other hand gave me a little heart attack. This will be the first time I'll have ever tried a shade that dark.

Taken from Sephora:
The Lip Pencil provides perfect, allover, opaque lip coverage. Bite Beauty's lightest formula yet, it offers addictively creamy coverage that's so light weight it feels like nothing on your lips. The case is in an artisanal wood barrel that encapsulates whipped shea butter and three times the amount of pigments for a perfectly defined line
Packaging

Top to bottom: 044 and 022
There isn't anything to write home about with regards to the lip pencil packaging. It's similar to any other pencil out there. The Amuse Bouche cover material is the same unique matte texture as their lip crayons and full sized lipsticks.

While the lip pencils don't really have a scent, the Amuse Bouche lipsticks have the same wax scent as the lip crayons.

Product/Swatches

I have to say, they really are opaque. One swipe offers a lot of coverage. Though pencils are very soft, so it's important to use a light hand. You can kind of see in the photo above, 022 the tip is a little slanted. When I went to use the pencil, it broke off.

Left to right: 044/Whiskey & 022/Honeycomb
These pencils are just ass Bite Beauty claims. They're creamy, they're pigmented and they're light weight. I could honestly wear them just on their own and I'd be fine. I don't have to worry about feathering and they're equally as moisturizing as the lipsticks.

While the lip liner helped prevent some bleeding for Whiskey, my application wasn't perfect. This is why I prefer  nude shades. You'll see what I mean in my lip swatches. You can tell I struggled with trying to shape my lips with 044 and Whiskey.

I found that if I applied one coat of the Amuse Bouche lipstick then it's matte. But another layer it becomes a satin finish, like they advertise to be. The lip pencils on the other hand are a matte finish.

Whiskey/044

With Whiskey, I found the lipstick did bleed a bit. I would recommend going back with lip pencil to clean up the edges. But you can see I struggled with the shade and precise application. Up close it's a nice red wine shade. From afar though it does look a lot darker, almost black. It's a great shade for Fall, but it's not really for me.

022/Honeycomb

Honeycomb/022 is a nude beige that is more up my alley. I usually wear nudes with more of a brown/rose pink undertone, so this is a little different for me as well. It looks fine on now as it's currently winter, but come summer time, I would not be able to wear this once I have a tan.

Overall Thoughts

I quite like the lip pencils. They're fine to wear on their own as they're very pigmented, creamy and light weight. They're not very drying either.

They're $20 CAD + taxes at Sephora. I don't usually go out of my way to purchase lip pencils, so personally I do find that it's rather expensive. But compared to the other lip pencils (ex. Guerlain $38 CAD) it's pretty decently priced.

If you're a fan of Bite Beauty I think it's worth trying. The texture and pigment are amazing. But if you're trying to get the most bang for your buck, it really is the Amuse Bouche lipstick in pencil form. so you could probably get away with using a lip brush to line.

Have you tried The Lip Pencils yet? What are your thoughts?
