Kat Von D - Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Misfit - Review + Swatches

I've gotta say, my interest for lipsticks has been reignited. This time it's not just for nude shades! I'm venturing out and dabbling in reds.

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have noticed I've been wearing a lot more reds. The lipstick I'll be reviewing today isn't the usual type of red I wear, but it has piqued my interest in Kat Von D.

Kat Von D's newly reformulated Studded Kiss lipsticks were released last month.

The lipstick line offers a ton of different shades to play with. Anything from wearable nudes to fun bright colours like green and light purple!

I've always heard great things about Kat Von D. I hear their eye liner is one of the best out there. So when I received this new Studded Kiss Creme lipstick, I was really excited to try it out.

Taken from the Sephora website:
A breakthrough new lipstick combining super-creamy color and weightless, comfortable long wear[...] Introducing the new and reborn Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick - the creamiest, most cushiony and unbelievable pigmented lipstick to ever cross your lips
Packaging

No one can deny that Kat Von D has some very unique packaging. The studded packaging makes the lipstick very recognizable. Even the box the lipstick comes in the studs stick out a bit.

Even though it is studded, the packaging is still pretty slippery. The protruded studs doesn't help with how the product feels in my hand and doesn't make it any easier to hold. The cover is actually on pretty tight. Since it's not magnetic, I have to pull pretty hard for the top to come off. But because the studs stick out, it hides any finger prints you may leave on the cover.

Product & Swatches

While it is creamy, if I were to compare it to the creaminess of Bite Beauty lipsticks, Bite Beauty offers a bit more. So I don't agree with it's claim of being "the creamiest lipstick to every cross your lips".

It is also very pigmented. A little just goes such a long way. Personally, one swipe I find is even too much pigment for me.

I prefer to dab or lightly apply the product on my lips. Blend it out with my finger as well. Just the lightest layer already gives me a lot of colour. If it's a light application, it offers a matte finish. If you do apply more then it offers a semi-matte finish.

It's definitely very comfortable on the lips. It's light weight just as they advertise. Once on the lips, I don't even realize I have anything on. That is, just as long as you have either a primer or lip balm underneath. I found the lipstick to be a little drying if I don't have anything on my lips before.

But even though it's a matte to semi-matte finish the application is very smooth. It doesn't sink into any lip lines or cake together when I apply more.

I also found this to be pretty heavily scented. It's very sweet, I originally though it smelled like cotton candy. Though others have told me it smelled like caramel. It's not my most favourite scent, but luckily it  doesn't linger once applied onto the lips.

The shade when swatched is a coppery red. Has some brown undertones. But on the lip, in person it looks more like an orange-red. I really do have to blend it out because the shade doesn't look that great on me.

It does smudge like any other lipstick, and it is transferable. Though when I apply a thin layer and blot with a tissue, it did not transfer as much. The long wear is slightly more than a regular lipstick. But after eating and drinking, reapplication will be required.

Overall Thoughts

While the shade isn't really for me (since I have a yellow undertone, it makes Misfit look a lot more orange), the quality of the product is really great.

As long as my lips are primed, the lipstick feels amazing. It's light weight and it doesn't smudge too badly.

Misfit didn't work out for me so I'll likely pass it along to a friend. But I would definitely try out other shades. It's one of the more affordable high end lipsticks out there. The line offers 3 different lipstick finishes with over 30 different shades.

For $23 CAD + taxes it is such an amazing price and the quality of the product is amazing.

Have you tried this Kat Von D line yet? Do you have a favourite shade?
